2024 Review

Developing Subarctic Bio-Tech

Our 2024 annual review documents groundbreaking developments in subarctic bioenergetics. Key highlights include continuous veterinary studies of Mist—our resident Steller sea lion pup—as well as endangered Cook Inlet beluga vocal dialect monitoring.

Over 24 wildlife response cases were successfully managed in 2024, deploying satellite trackers across remote coastlines to monitor rehabilitation success.

2024 Statistics
Pinniped Releases 18 Patients
Published Science Papers 14 Peer-Reviewed
Public Literacy reach 16,000 Students

2023 Statistics

2023 Review

Upgraded Experimental Infrastructure

The 2023 report centers on deep upgrades to our cold water research decks. High-flow ambient seawater pipelines were overhauled to support long-term marine biochemistry studies.

We completed a major demographic census of regional Gulf seabirds, developing advanced lipid assay extraction methodologies used by international laboratories.

2022 Review

Steller Bioenergetics Calibrations

In 2022, research operations focused on Steller sea lion bioenergetics calibrations. Working closely with our resident animals, PI teams developed advanced algorithms to convert swim speeds into exact metabolic rates.

This dataset is currently the global baseline used by NOAA and federal bodies to calculate marine mammal survival factors in rapidly shifting environments.

2022 Statistics

2021 Review

Post-Pandemic Coast Releases

Following a highly challenging lockdown era, our 2021 operations prioritized safe coastal animal releases and public visitation recovery.

Our donor network expanded by 34%, ensuring that we could meet the increased costs of emergency wildlife triage while keeping veterinary clinics at peak staffing levels.

2020 Resilience

Crisis Response & Surrogacy Success

Despite the severe disruptions of COVID-19, including a two-month complete facility closure, ASLC maintained essential veterinary care and wildlife response operations.

An unprecedented fundraising campaign launched in July 2020 raised over $4M, securing the center's long-term operational future.

Key victories of the year included celebrating the birth of Mist (our Steller sea lion pup) and successfully rehabilitating six critical seal patients.

2020 Statistics
Lockdown Emergency Fund $4.2 Million Raised
Mist Birth Calibration 1st Year Growth Profile
Virtual Classroom reach 8,500 Scholars

2019 Statistics
Admitted Harbor Seals 10 Patients

2019 Review

Sourced Bioenergetics Baselines

Sourced directly from our official 2019_aslc_annual_report.pdf archive. This year established foundational bioenergetics models tracking winter sleep-rate thresholds and marine lipid recoveries.

Our response network admitted 10 abandoned harbor seal pups during the peak summer pupping season, successfully training all individuals in safe wild foraging strategies prior to release.
